Shrimp Exports Plunge in First Quarter 2015

In the first quarter of 2015, Vietnam shrimp exports plunged to $798 million, down 28 percent from the first quarter 2014.  Exports to the USA declined to $116.3 million, from $263.3 million, mostly because of the dramatic drop in world shrimp prices.  Also, because of the strength of the dollar, the USA has become the market of choice for many shrimp farming countries, making it more difficult for Vietnam to compete.
