Pilot Insurance Program for Shrimp Farmers

In 2011, Vietnam implemented a pilot insurance program for shrimp farmers in the Dam Doi and Cai Nuoc Districts of Ca Mau Province. Insurance was purchased by 1,611 shrimp farming households covering assets valued at $19.4 million. The insurance cost $1.4 million, $853,889 of it paid by the state government and $569,259 paid by the farmers. The government will continue to expand the program with the aim of helping poor farmers reduce losses and maintain sustainable cultivation.
