Mekong Delta Production Statistics

 

Vietnam’s 12 Mekong Delta Provinces hope to export $2.55 billion dollars worth of farmed shrimp in 2014 from almost 600,000 hectares of ponds.  Ca Mau Province, which produces the most farmed shrimp, is likely to export $1.1 billion worth of shrimp in 2014.  Other leading provinces are Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, Soc Trang and Tra Vinh.

 

Farmers have received preferential loans to help them expand production.

 

In 2013, the Mekong Delta region had more than 588,000 hectares of shrimp ponds and produced nearly 380,000 tons of shrimp.  It rose to third place among the world’s shrimp exporters with a total export value of $2.5 billion, a yearly rise of nearly 33 percent over 2012.

 

In the first two months of 2014, its farmed shrimp exports were worth more than $430 million dollars.
