Florida—Florida Organic Aquaculture’s Grand Opening

On May 7, 2014, Florida Organic Aquaculture (FOA), the largest recirculation shrimp farm in the USA, will celebrate its grand opening in Fellsmere, Florida.  FOA is housed in an 180,000 square foot (roughly the size of 3½ football fields) facility.  Shrimp are grown in the energy-efficient system without any chemicals or preservatives.  Its fresh—never frozen—shrimp is highly sought after by restaurants, charter shipping lines and grocery chains.

The $22 million project is expected to bring 512 direct and indirect jobs to the Treasure Coast region of Florida.

FOA’s groundbreaking ceremony held in April 2013 was attended by more than 300 people from surrounding communities, and the grand opening may attract even more people than that.  Elected officials, college and university personnel, businessmen and people from nonprofit organizations will be in attendance.  Clifford Morris, FOA founder and CEO, will be one of the keynote speakers.

After the opening ceremonies, there will be a tour of the facilities.  You must make reservations if you plan to tour the facilities and attend the ceremonies. Flat shoes are recommended.
