Colorado—Silver Bullet Wants TCBS Agar Dip Slides

Sonja Ingmanson (sonja.ingmanson@silverbulletcorp.com), Director of Environmental Operations at Silver Bullet Corp, reports:

Silver Bullet Water Treatment is now deployed in Mexico with the first of many industrial sized water treatment units designed to prevent Vibrio parahaemolyticus outbreaks on large-scale aquaculture farms (100+ hectares).  The ideal timing for applying this water treatment to prevent an outbreak is prior to stocking a farm with shrimp.  The application is intended as a prophylactic treatment to prevent the growth of this bacterium, thus avoiding the devastating effects of EMS.

Interestingly, despite the global epidemic of V. parahaemolyticus, there seems to be a shortage of TCBS agar dip slides.  Does anyone have a suggestion or lead for a manufacturer/distributor of TCBS agar dip slides or a comparably easy field test that farmers can use for measuring the amount of Vibrio?  I will explore other options (like Dr. Lightner and his colleagues’ PCR test), but am frankly shocked that every company I have looked into has discontinued manufacturing TCBS dip slides.
