Seajoy Farms Get ASC Certifications

Latin American shrimp farmer Seajoy earlier this month received Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification for its Aquacultura Fonseca Farm in Honduras, said Brad Price, vice president of operations and sales.  The company also anticipates ASC certification within three weeks for its Biomar farm in Honduras and its Torrecillas Aquaculture operation in Nicaragua.  Certification for the three farms will put more than 18 million pounds of shrimp under the ASC standards, Price said.

The ASC certifications will compliment the three-star Best Aquaculture Practices certifications the company has already obtained from the Global Aquaculture Alliance, Price said.  “Seajoy is proud to comply with these as well as other standards, and we hope that some day they can be harmonized into one rigorous standard,” he said.
