France/New Caledonia
Who Is Laurent Queffelec?

January 1, 2017

From 2013 to November 2016, I was in charge of Blue Lagoon Farms, a 21-pond, 77-hectare, semi-intensive, Penaeus stylirostris farm in New Caledonia.  I’m back in France now and not employed at the moment.  I left New Caledonia to give my children good post-graduation opportunities.  In the future, I’d like to create a small-size aquaponic production farm in Normandy, the region of France I know best.

I met InnovAquaculture’s Regis Bador in New Caledonia in 2013, and we installed AQ1’s sound feeding system in four ponds in 2014.  It worked very well, increasing survivals and reducing FCRs.  In 2016, before I left New Caledonia, we added AQ1s to five more ponds at the farm.

Before that, in the 1990s, I taught aquaculture at INTECHMER, a marine science institute in Cherbourg, France.  I’ve also worked as production manager at a small seafood cooking and packing factory, as a frozen seafood importer in Paris, and I managed a small trout farm that produced trout for recreational fishing in the center of France.  Earlier, I entered the shrimp world in the French West Indies, where I was employed for four years at a very small freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) farm, before leaving for a bigger farm in the Dominican Republic.
