Shrimp Prices

Steven Garrett, CEO/Founder of Las Brisas International, which is setting up an organic shrimp processing facility in Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador, reports on the following “unbelievable increases” in prices paid to farmers for whole shrimp:

36 count per pound @ $4.60

41 count per pound @ $4.30

51 count per pound @ $3.90

61 count per pound @$3.70

71 count per pound @$3.29

91 count per pound @$2.80

Garrett’s webpage says: When completed, the Las Brisas International processing plant will receive chilled, raw, farmed shrimp, and clean, prepare and package it for export to end users or to secondary processors.  Because air and water have the greatest effect on the quality and taste of shrimp, the plant will recycle and filter the water in a 120,000-gallon holding tank to the pure stage with UV lights and ozone, and the air intakes for the sealed plant refrigeration system will also purify the air with UV and ozone.
