Announces Measures to Fend Off EMS

The National Fisheries Institute (INP) in Ecuador has introduced a series of measures in its contingency plan to prevent early mortality syndrome (EMS), also known as acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), from entering the country.

The plan’s most important measure is the maintenance and enforcement of Ministerial Agreement 043, which prohibits the import of live shrimp (at any stage) and aquaculture products from countries affected by EMS.

The Ecuadorian Secretariat of Aquaculture and INP said they would offer training programs for importers to prevent the entry of EMS into the country.
