Ecuador

El Niño Floods

   

 

At the end of January and the beginning of February 2016, heavy El Niño rains and flooding began to impact shrimp production and harvesting in Ecuador, as the Guayaquil River overflowed its banks.  In the Guayaquil area, a total of 61,392 hectares of shrimp ponds are susceptible to flooding, out of a total of 82,550 hectares susceptible to flooding in the entire country.
