China/Thailand

Update

Dr. Jim Wyban (jim.wyban@gmail.com), “The Father of SPF Shrimp”, reports: Greetings from Hong Kong.  I just finished a consulting trip in China, where I visited Guangdong and Hainan provinces.  The word from the shrimp industry is that the first crop of 2015 was really bad and that the second crop, currently being harvested, is a total disaster—probably caused by a combination of WS, EMS and EHP, which are all rampant in China.  Folks are expecting much lower production for the year.

On the bright side, a top Chinese feed company executive told me he just returned from an extensive trip to Thailand where he visited many farms.  He was convinced the Thais had turned the corner on solving their disease issues and were seeing good growth and much improved production.  The executive wants to introduce Thai methods to China to help turnaround their declining situation.
