Who Is Patrick Wood?

Patrick Wood is a seafood consultant that specializes in shrimp marketing and shrimp farming.

Over the past thirty years, Patrick has brought to market many products and production technologies while designing, building, managing and owning shrimp hatcheries, farms and processing plants.  He is experienced in sustainability, biosecurity, certification, technology, products and markets.  He has worked with shrimp importers and distributors, retail supermarkets, food-service markets and casual dining brands.

Some of his shrimp farming achievements include:

In the early 1980s, he ran the first farm trials (from the first hatchery) with Penaeus vannamei and P. stylirostris in Ecuador.

In the late 1980s, he worked with the first shrimp hatchery in Mexico, using an artificially inseminated, SPF Kona strain of P. vannamei from the United States Shrimp Farming Consortium.
In the 1990s, in conjunction with the United States Food and Drug Administration, he developed the first HACCP procedures for processing and exporting P. vannamei and P. monodon from a shrimp farm in West Africa.

In the 2000s, he played a role in the first exports of P. vannamei postlarvae to Japan.

Patrick is fluent in English, Spanish and French.  He says: “I'm...European. Born in Germany to French and United Kingdom parents.  Educated in the UK.  Lived in UK, France, Spain and Germany.  Married to a German.  Property in three countries.  Nationality British.  Current tax regime Spain.  My home is where I lay my head at night.”
