Broodstock Independence?

Currently, Vietnam depends on the United States, Singapore and Thailand for shrimp broodstock.  On November 11, 2017, however, the Vietnam-Australia Group announced the opening of its broodstock facilities in Vietnam that are capable of filling 25% of the country’s broodstock requirement.

Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam said shrimp farmers hope to export $10 billion worth of shrimp by 2025, from a production of 1.1 million metric tons on 750,000 hectares of shrimp ponds.  To realize that goal, Vietnam will need about 500,000 to 600,000 broodstock a year.
