GOAL 2017—Farmers Producing Smaller Shrimp

At the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s GOAL 2017 Conference (Dublin, Ireland, October 3–6, 2017), Jennifer Wandler, director of seafood at US Foods, said, “We Americans love big shrimp.”  According to a Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) industry survey, however, around two thirds of global farmed shrimp production is expected to be 40-count per kilogram or smaller.  By comparison, just half of global farmed shrimp produced was of this size in 2010.
