Odisha—State Government Backs Shrimp Farming

To increase the production of farmed-raised shrimp in the state of Odisha, the state government plans to lease 24,000 hectares of government land to shrimp farmers.  It will provide infrastructural support for the new farmers, including electricity and roads.  There are also proposals to develop some shrimp hatcheries to provide farmers with high-quality seedstock.

Shrimp farmers are being encouraged to adopt the best management practices.  The program supports disease-free Penaeus vannamei seedstock.
