Expects Big Exports to China

Kamlesh Gupta, Chairman of the WestCoast Group, one of the leading seafood exporters in the country, thinks China will become India’s biggest customer in the near future.

At present, the top markets for seafood exports from India are the USA, Europe, Japan, China and Southeast Asia.  India has set a target of earning $15 billion from its shrimp exports by 2022.  In its last financial year, it earned $5.78 billion (compared to $4.69 billion in the previous year) from exporting 1.13 million metric tons of shrimp.

In 2016, India became the largest shrimp exporter in the world with 438,500 metric tons, a year-on-year growth rate of 14.5 percent over 2015.

In 2016, the top five shrimp exporting countries were India, Vietnam, Ecuador, Indonesia and Thailand.
