India expects to export $15 billion worth of shrimp by 2022!  At a recent stakeholders’ meeting, Indian Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries (DADF) Secretary Devendra Chaudhry said the government’s strategy for increasing shrimp exports will be focused on the European Union, United States and Southeast Asia.

During 2016-2017, India earned $5.78 billion from exporting 1.13 million metric tons of shrimp, compared to $4.69 billion from 940,000 metric tons in 2015-2016.  Last year, according to DADF, shrimp maintained its position as the country’s top seafood export, representing 38 percent in quantity and 65 percent in value of all seafood exports.
