Farmed Shrimp Exports Increase

According to statistics from the National Association of Aquaculture Producers of Honduras (ANDAH), in the first nine months of 2017, Honduras exported 45.48 million pounds of shrimp, a 28% increase, compared to the 35.61 million pounds exported in the first nine months of 2016.  Victor Wilson, president of ANDAH and Chief Executive Officer of Grupo Granjas Marinas (one of the most successful integrated shrimp farming operations in the Western Hemisphere), said North America is the main market for Honduran shrimp.  In the first nine months of 2017, Honduras exported 10.24 million pounds to Mexico and 6.26 million pounds to the United States.  Shrimp, coffee and bananas are Honduras’s main export products.
